Nissan Plans to Manufacture 'Venucia' EV in China by 2015

Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co Ltd, a China-based joint venture of Nissan Motor Co Ltd, announced a five-year plan for the Chinese market July 26, 2011.

Dongfeng Nissan plans to release about 30 kinds of vehicles including an electric vehicle (EV) of the "Venucia" brand in the Chinese market. The Venucia brand is the company's original brand for the Chinese market.

In April 2011, Nissan Motor announced that it will launch a new vehicle of the Venucia brand in the first half of 2012. And, this time, it announced a plan to increase the unit sales of the Venucia brand vehicles to about 300,000 by 2015 by, for example, releasing five kinds of vehicles including the EV.

Nissan Motor aims to increase the number of sales in the Chinese market from about 1.3 million in 2011 to 2.3 million until 2015 and achieve 10% market share in 2015. To meet this goal, the company will expand its production capacity and sales network by investing Rmb50 billion (approx US$7.8 billion) in the market.

Nissan Motor intends to build a plant for small commercial vehicles in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, in addition to the Huadu Second Passenger Vehicle Plant whose construction will begin in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, in 2012 and a new plant whose construction will begin in Hubei Province within 2011 for medium- and large-size vehicles.

Through this investment, Nissan Motor plans to increase its production capacity in China to 1.5 million units by 2012 and 2.3 million units by 2015. As for its sales network, the company aims to increase the number of its outlets from the current 1,400 to 2,400 in 2015.
